56' Olds power steering conversion
Greetings, I am looking to buy a power steering setup from someone and my question is, do I need the column as well? He is selling the pump and box, but also claims I need the column as well. Is this true?? Thanks, Joe

Joe,
I would not think so, as long as the end of the column/rag joint fits the box you are set. I removed power steering from my '69 Delta because I didn't want anything cluttering the engine compartment and the steering box is behind the upper control arm, needed space for hot-rod exhaust. Anyway, I didn't replace the column, just the box and then modified the pitman arm to fit the cent link. Not a big deal. Of course, there is always a possibility the '56 would be different but I don't think so. Why does he say you need the column? Any specific reason?
