Question OAI hood, possible price?

Guys, I have a guy near me that was looking to sell his Cutlass, but it doesn't seem to be moving. I asked if he was willing to sell the hood or trade with mine plus cash. I think he is willing. What do you think would be a fair price for the hood, assuming the condition scale of 6-8 out of 10? I haven't seen it yet but the car has been sitting a while, so I gather its not new.

Assuming it's a 'real' hood, I've seen these hoods advertised as 'mint' condition anywhere from 2500 to 3500. So, based on the facts as provided, I would guess a reasonable price would be 1500 - 2000 but I'm sure you realize there are many intangibles that factor into the price of anything.

I do understand that. I'm not sure if its "real" or a reproduction. I'm going to call him tonight. Is my understanding correct that both are fiberglass?

a question...

ok I am an olds newb, But I was wondering is it "worth" putting a 2500 dollar hood on a car that in no way would be a 442 anyway? why not a replica hood?

I dunno when I joined this site I had a clear picture of what I was going to do with my 69 cutlass convertible, I purchased this car thinking it was a real 442 but I bought it 20+ years ago, I find I did not pay a premium price and the price I paid would be comparable for a cutlass s in the same condition so i am fine with it, I decided I was going to make it into a hurst convertible "clone" I mean no one would be fooled as there are only 2 or 3 and NO 4 speed convertibles, I was going to find all the correct parts, ho air cleaner, etc but the prices are now astronomical for " original" parts whereas a good repo part may be fine on a clone? just looking for thoughts.

Well I'm not looking to make a clone and pass it off as a 442. I simply like the look of the OAI hood. If it is original and the guy does not know what he has(which is possible), I could get the hood at a good price. This was a project car from the way it's listed for sale. I would never pay some rediculous price for an original part because there are too many nice repro's out there

A factory OAI hood is fiberglass with a steel inner structure. Cheaper reproductions are all fiberglass whereas there are some vendors (including Thorntons) that make a reproduction with the steel structure...I think those run about 2500. You can't use factory springs with an all fiberglass hood...they sell lighter springs for the all glass hoods. If you go to check it out, make sure to take a magnet with you.
