I don't think math is his strong suit. When it comes to counting money,he's the best.

This is a meticulously and accurately done car. I have seen a lot of "restored" 66s that are nowhere as accurately and nicely one as this one. This is a very rare opportunity to acquire the premier W30, the first and arguably best effort by Olds engineering to produce a completely streetable race car.

People have noticed that they can buy an existing house for less than it costs to build a new one, a lot less in some cases. The housing market is in the trash can becfause of the economy. Here we have a premium quality, highly desirable car, as well as collector cars in general, that have trouble getting the amount of money in a sale that it cost to build them, even with pricing labor at a couple dollars an hour. That situation won't last--people just won't restore cars for that kind of return (or lack of it).

Back in the 1970s people thought the 70 W30 was the pinnacle because of the 455 and fiberglass hood. Only recently has the true worth of the 66 become clear to collectors. I have owned three of the 66s because of what they are. Back in the 70s some thought I was defending the 66 just because I happened to have one.

Exactly Joe. '66s have always been my favorite, and I enjoyed that it had some relative obscurity. Now, not so much. In fact I like to joke about having "one of the rare 4-bbl versions".
This car here is worth more to *me* than that "$200k" '70 W30 convert in the other thread.

It's a beautiful car and clearly has excellent care and workmanship in the rebuild, but just so we're all clear, were the W-30 and L-69 parts (and anything else?) added during the rebuild?

Do you mean the ultra rare option at today's car shows, the W30 delete option

I don't know when the L69 (PN 397615) and W30 (PN 230195) packages were added to this car, but what is the difference? They are stock parts and intended by Olds to be dealer or owner added "whenever." Just like adding a radio later, as far as Olds was concerned FWIW, a lot of the "dealer" W30 kits were installed by neanderthals with blue wrenches. Brainbeau car included.

just for the record:
i bought the car about 15 or so years ago. the motor and tricarb came with the car but were not in the car running. with a body build date of 11E and the tricarb option being available in December 65 who knows. there was no paperwork with the car and i did not "find" any during the restoration. the W30 or trac pac option was added during the restoration
i am not representing the car as an original from the factory tricarb or a factory W30 because of not having paperwork. i have restored several 66 442's in the past and it is a very nice car.
i may take the hotrod stuff off and put back the factory parts at some point if it don't sell like it is.

thanks again for the interest
Scott

I'm pretty sure I saw this car @ a show in Cary, NC not to long ago. I'll have to go check my show pics. If it's the same car, I was floored by the detail and the depth of the paint. It's a beautiful car....Good luck with the sale.

Accurate? Beautiful car but far from accurate...When did 66's have dual res master cylinders? Lots of aftermarket mods also.

I believe he meant that the finish on the bolts/nuts,fit/finish on the body/paint,correct markings etc. If you drove a car that ran as fast as this car does, would you want to depend on a single master cylinder? If he doesn't sell it,I think he's going to put it back original and then let's see if you can find anything wrong with it.LOL.

Exactly. The front disk brakes aren't "original" either, and the dual master cylinder goes along with them. The changes are listed in the first post. Of course they aren't "original" but look at all the stuff that is done very well to original specs complementing the tasteful performance mods. Back in 66 only some performance oriented buyers left their cars alone. You had showroom, and then you had "one week later" condition.

Anyone know the "history" of this eBay L69?

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Oldsm....c0.m245#v4-36

Protect-o-Plate, but without the plate itself.

I did not realize that only 490 4bbl F-85 4-4-2's were built, either.

The car was first known in Ok.,then made it's way to Mn. and was owned by Dave Ingle, then by another guy in Mn. It then made it's way to AZ. where it was freshened up and converted to a heater delete car. I have proof positive that this was not a factory heater delete car. I have talked to the guy who now owns it and he contacted me trying to find out who the owner in OK. was. I gave him the guy in OK. name but I do not think he was able to find him.

NOTE*I just looked @ the auction again and noticed something strange. I've never had the numbers off this car before and something is up with it. The motor # is a very early production one,V100447 making it one of the first 447 442's built and 3X2 wasn't available until 12/65. If this is the original motor,it can't be an original 3X2 car. Also the trans casting # is wrong,it should be a 5010 last four digits, not what he has listed.

That head stamp looked early to me, too. My 01C is V108836 (on both the head and the P-o-P ), and my 04A is V114018T. That would put an 03C in the neighborhood of V113000.
