HELP 62 Starfire Booster Check Valve

Hello,
Anyone know where I can get the Power Brake Booster Vacuum Check Valve that goes inline between the carberator and the Brake Booter. Or does anyone know what a good fix would be if the originals are not available. Thanks. Looked everywhere I know where to go. Major bummer so far. Thanks again everyone for all the help.

When I was disassembling my 62 Starfire and removed the large vacuum storage tank from under the left fender it was 1/4 filled with brake fluid. I figured that there must be something that prevents the brake fluid from getting into the tank. I tried that Dorman site but did not see anything that looked like a check valve. SS427, did you find the part you needed?
Thanks.

Tom- The valve goes between the carburetor & the brake booster. It helps to maintain a relatively constant level of vacuum at the booster regardless of throttle position.

There's not supposed to be a check valve between the booster & the fender vacuum tank. If there were a valve there, one of two things would happen (depending on how the valve was oriented)- either you couldn't apply vacuum to the tank, OR vacuum would be trapped in the tank & couldn't be applied to the power brake booster.

If you have brake fluid in the tank, then you likely have bad seals in the master cylinder that leak fluid into the booster. Was your brake booster full of fluid, too? Check your master cylinder bore. If it's pitted it can chew up even a new set of seals fairly quickly & you'll be right back where you started.

If you have the original master & want to keep the car looking stock, you can have the cylinder bored & sleeved to the original diameter. Since the car's all apart it would also be a good opportunity to have the booster rebuilt.

I looked at my shop manual and saw the location of the check valve. When I bought the car the previous owner said the the brake booster was not original. When he replaced it, he probably did not check the vacuum tank to see where all the brake fluid was going. The check valve was also missing. I agree, it would be a good time to have the whole assembly checked for proper operation.
Thanks Chuck.
Joe, I did find the check valves on the Dorman site,
Thanks

After buying a couple of different check valves from Napa and Dornen (that were very tiny)(maybe for heater/AC vent valves) I found a regular booster check valve that was used in the booster itself and used some reducers and made my own rig. Works great and doesn't look to bad. Not original that's for sure. Thanks for all the help.

Try a universal check valve

Yes, I've been hunting for this part for quite some time. I did find an inline vacuum check valve correct for '62 Olds a couple of months ago on ebay but the guy wouldn't ship to Canada. Anyway, your best bet is to use a universal check valve just like to type sold by Dorman Products (see photo):

Similar inline vacumm check valves from the mid-late 60s (GM NOS parts) are also available on ebay. BUT before you do anything, do have your system checked out for fluid leaks as previously advised. Good luck.

"...used some reducers and made my own rig"

Good idea Tom. May try that myself.
