convertable hydrolic lines

does anyone know. the hyrdolic lines from the motor to the cylinders in my car are shot. could a guy just make up his lines with some fittings and new hose. i was told that the fittings on the lines have inverted flare tips so they will seal in the cylinders. but i was also told by someone else that the threading in the cylinders is standard threading. so standard pipe thread fittings would work. anyone know. i know i can by new ones already made up for $100.00, but it seems like im getting bent over for about $20.00 worth of parts. thanks chris

On my old 72 Skylark convertible with shot lines, I took everything to a local industrial supplier, bought the parts and lines, and built my own for about $40. Everything was in stock there, so I assume it was standard fittings.

By using the term "bent over" you imply dishonesty on the part of the vendor.

If the parts cost $20 and the labor charge is $80, you can choose to buy the parts only, do the labor yourself, and save 80 bucks.

Or:

If you cannot do the labor yourself, you can pay the 80 to have it done by someone with the tools, knowledge, and ability, to do what you cannot.

That, is the way it works.

Norm

im all for paying labor, but it does not take no $80.00 worth of labor to put together a 10 minute job.
