Power Steering pump
Power Steering pump
Is it possible to buy the shaft bushing for a GM power steering pump?
I recently puchased a 65 cutlass convertible and the power steering pump was in the trunk with an unopened seal kit. While installing the seal kit, I noticed the shaft bushing was in bad shape. I have tries several parts vendors in addition to a few rebuild houses. It seems the bushing is not available unless you are a rebuild house. The rebuild houses refused to sell me a bushing or tell me where to get one.
I located a bronze bushing from an industrial hydraulic supply house but am not sure if it will work. The original bushing is split steel and teflon. The replacement is solid bronze. There is a fluid passage adjacent to the bushing when installed. I wonder if the split in the original bushing is there to allow lubrication to the shaft. I am concerned that the solid bushing may block the passage and cause problems.
