Need Help!!! : 67 Cutlass Brake Conversion/rear Axle Removal...

Doing a full disc brake conversion on my 67 Cutlass Supreme. Front is done. I'm at the point where I need to remove the rear axles to take off the backing plates.

Anyone know the easiest way to pull the axles out? Can't see any c-clips in the differential. Having trouble finding "how to's" on the net.

Please help. Anxious to get my ride back on the road.

Thanks!

If you don't have any "c" clips, then you will need to remove the four bolts directly behind the axle hub first. That houses the seal, and retainer. Once those are out, it is best to use a slide hammer to remove the axle. If you don't have one, bolt on an old rim, and a few good hits with a good hammer should set them free. Hope this helps. Jim.

I just put the brake drum back over the studs, open end out. Loosely install three of the lug nuts with the flat side towards the drum. Use the drum as a slide hammer and the axle pops right out.
