72 Cutlass rear disc conversion
I'm looking to convert my drums to rear disc brakes in the future. I'm trying to do this with the least amount of financial pain. I did hear that the rear brakes from 79 Cadillac Deville would work? Can anyone here offer some insight?
Scarebird brakes makes an adapter plate for this conversion using the cad eldorado rear calipers with the emergency brake. I am not sure of the model of rotor but it will require 15" wheels to work. The bracket and directions along with a parts list sells for $105.00. You can find them on the internet. There are other manufactures who also sell kits for your car but I found the scarebird to be the lowest cost using a combo of wrecking yard and NAPA parts for the conversion on my 57 Olds
Thanks for the info. I just looked at their site, seems straight forward. I already have a Hotchkis setup for the front, but wanted discs for the rear also. My rallye's ar 15" so I should be ok.
I found this on Ebay but I have questions about rear and front conversions also.
I think I have 14" ralleye's so I have to upgrade my rims first obviously.

The 11X2 rear drums with the 5x4.75" bolt circle were factory on the 73-77 A-body cars. These drums are still available new from auto parts stores. If you can find one of these cars in a wrecking yard, you can use these backing plates also, but since the 73-77 cars are not common in yards (at least not around here) get the backing plates from any 77-90 B-body wagon. These use 11x2 brakes, but the drums have the 5x5" bolt circle, so the drums themselves won't work.
