im pretty new with the old school cars but I picked up a 72 ragtop cutlass with a 350...i dont know too much about it but learning slowly..just wondering if anyone knows what kind of breaking system the car came with in that year?
also is it necesssary to convert it to disc breaks if im goin to put bigger wheels on? |

You can easily tell by looking at the brakes if it has 4 wheel drum brakes, or front disc and rear drum.
It's NEVER a bad idea to upgrade your brake system. As far as requirements go, I'd suggest at the very least, front disc brakes if your car isn't already equipped. I'd also suggest a larger rotor, and dual piston calipers up front. |

I respect everyone's opinion and agree with TheCoroner that it never hurts, but if you plan to just use the car as a driver and don't plan on overdriving it's limitations as far as speed and cornering goes then you wouldn't necessarilly need to upgrade to larger discs and dual calipers. Just my opinion. You wouldn't need to upgrade to better brakes on the basis of lager wheels unless you are going to say.......20's and I wouln't recommend that because then all your front end specs will be out of whack. Again, just my 2 cents worth.....
