68 cutlass/442 hood hinge

Hi I m restoring a 68 442 and want to change the hood hinges but these are impossible to find as 1968 is a specific year.
I plan to take 69 / 72 hood hinges even they're different...
Does anyone have info on this operation ?
thank you

There several options. You can modify your fender to accept the later hinges by welding nuts in the right spaces. You can get donor receivers/brackets from a 69-72 fenders or put on 69 fenders. Are you replacing the hinges because you want you hood to open farther or because your hood will not close all the way at the windshield. If it is because the hood will not close, you can place 1/8-1/4" spacer between the hood and the hinges. This forces the hinge to down enough to close all the way. When they get old/worn the pivot points seem to shift and the spring does not pull it all the way shut. Others can give you more info on modifying, the spacer trick for me so I choose not to go that route.

If you say you are restoring why would you not want the original type hinge? Keep checking e-bay you will find them on there pretty much all the time.

I have scars to prove I still have the head knocker hinges

I love/hate watching someone else try to open it further after thinking it is not up all the way.

He made the comment that they were imposible to find which I find not to be the case.

Like I said check e-bay.

Evil bay has them.

One right side hinge with spring.

Both right and left with springs.

A Repro set that says they are good for 68-72. not sure about that. They kind of look like they are long like the 68's, but have holes for the three bolt pattern of the 69+ hinges. I have never seen a combo set before, my eyes may be playing tricks on me.

You can also take your hinges to a good machine shop that can recenter the pivot points with over sized pins. I have heard that will fix the not shutting all the way problem.
