Headers

Any opinion on the difference between Hooker Competition Headers versus Doug's Headers (both ceramic coated). Friend used Doug's in his 66 Goat and loves them.

Thanks...Tim

Hey i used doug thorleys until i needed bigger tubes, they fit good with a mini starter installed the size was one inch and 3 qters. I now have hooker competition headers 2 and about a eighth thickness but fenderwell headers with super minimal clearance problems and almost non existant problems but a small dent to drivers side 3rd tube for the brake lines and cover it up also the brake line i mean, the drivers upper control arm needs a little trimmed off the bolt make sure u u se lock tite on the nut and of course a mini starter.

I have Thorleys on my 70 , not coated, they are great, and I use a regular starter.

I'm using the Hooker i 7/8 on my 69, they are 12 years old and still look OK. A lot of the coating has flaked off. They fit extremely well, once the old headers were off these went on in less than a hour. Lots of room with a factory starter.

dude you really must have gotten lucky. I used a inch and three quarters thorley header and my starter unless you wanted to crush that tube would not fit please post when your thorleys were made and save everbody a couple of hundred on a mini starter.

Not only do I have a regular type starter, it is a HD Powermaster, and I think it is just a little bigger. It works great, as when I had the GM one, I had a heat shield, and HD spring, and solinoid, this one works great even when hot. I do have to loosen the headers a little to get the starter in or out.

The ARH headers Smitty275 sells are IMO, the best, when I pulled mine for engine removal some of the bolts had fell out, and there were NO leaks..but, the starter can't be pulled till the header is at least loosened. These headers fit nice..
