sorry to sound like a dope..but i was able to pick up a 71 delta 88 royale convertible recently..and was trying to identify the engine..etc..it's a 350 2 barrel..code is baked under the oil refill..so..i can't see anything..i guess my main question is did all 71 royale convertibles come with a rocket 350?..much thanks..dave..

71's should have had 455's. There may be a few that didn't though. You can look at http://archive.classicoldsmobile.com/html/ if you find the block #'s

I forgot.. the identification plate on the firewall or on the door should give you the correct numbers too. Most people have a hard time decyphering 425's and 455's since they're the same block size. Since you've got a 350, the #'s from the door panel will tell you all.

Look on the cylinder head for a number or a letter. It will be about an inch tall on the end of the head beside a head bolt. If it is a number, then you have a small block, probably a 350, if you have a letter then you have a 455.
