Harmonic Balancer Movement?
I set my timing in my '65 Delta 88 w/ a 425 at 13* with my timing light a few months back, I now checked it recently and it seems that it is near 30*. The driveability has not changed and it seems to run just like it was when I initially set it. I think that the outer rubber of the harmonic balancer has moved or rotated, it is the original one to the car. I am wondering if anybody could recomend a moderately priced one for me.
I was looking at these 2, don't know which one would be better......... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/HARMO...mZ280267463972 http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/SFI-H...mZ180266134305 |

Neither one has the correct counterbalance for a 64-7 engine. They also have the timing mark in the "wrong" place so you would have to get a 350-455 timing pointer. It is likely that the outer ring slipped. I have some used balancers and probably others on the board do too. If you get a used one, of course it is 40 years old so could later slip, and many of them have worn seal surfaces, another issue to fix. I don't know of any aftermarket balancers for the early engines, but maybe someone else does. I have adapted a 455 SFI approved balancer by using the later pointer and rebalancing it.
