mystery no`s on BBO heads
On the intake side of both heads (B heads , 66 toro ) there is the number 2.6 stamped there.Has there been some surfacing work done on these heads wih the number relating to the quantity of metal removed?? I see no similar numbers on the block side of the heads ??
Any thoughts ? thanks mike |

Casting numbers are usually above the center 2 exhasut ports.
The numbers of "B" heads are 389395. But is there a drill spot too? Without the drill spot they are 45* heads, with the drill spot they are 39* heads. Both are/were 80cc

tx red. No I have that part of the issue you mentioned well under control. The number 2.6 is on the intake side of the head, 1/2 way along the head between the ports --maybe I will see if I can post a pic .I suspect ??? it may relate to some previous mill work --guess only ,thats why I ask.
cheers mike |

The numbers I told you would be right where the head meets the exhaust manifold.
The only other casting I know of on Olds heads would be the "B" you were talking about already ![]()

The Chassis Service Manual shows that if oversize lifters were needed (due to production tolerances) when the engine was built, there was a stamping on the head in the location you've indicated.

stamping is pictured as a "O". the presence of an "O" indicates .010" o.s. lifter . ![]() bill

Red,Joe,Bill,
Thanks guys . sometimes an answer raises more questions. However, I will try n get a pic -may have to put carbon black in the stamping no`s to get no`s to stand out. Seems the oversize lifter thing might be it . Irrespective, I believe it may be more of a curiosity than a problem. mike |

I know about the drill spot on the raised rib near the oil filler tube; haven't seen drill marks on heads. However, B heads will only have 2.06" intake valves (vs. 2.0") if 442 or Toro and both came with 39 degree, .921 lifters.

hi run to rund ,
the engine in question is 30 mins away . when I get a moment I will have to get a pic. The numbers ,unlike B and the drill spot etc are not visible until the intake manifold is removed. mike |

Here is a pic of one of the heads showing the position of the stamped no`s 2.6. The numbers are next to the green pen tip . The no`s and position are the same on the other head -
