394 question
ok right now i have a 63 88 that im trying to get rid of that has a 394 in it, my question is, if for some reason i cant sell my car what cars will the 394 fit into without any heavy mods? if i cant trade or sell it then i want to pull the motor and drop it into something else, maybe a bit smaller, any ideas if anything is even possible thanks a lot.

A 59-64 big car, or a traditional hot rod are the easiest.
Being as only a Hydro or Slim Jim transmission will bolt to a Rocket block without modifications to the case, you might want to consider what it would take to transplant it.

You could bolt up that engine to anything that had a 303 324 371 or 394 in it as the front mount is the same for these cars..Transmission mounts, well, are a different story

Fusick's catalogs show front and rear mounts, for '39-'64, except 330.
My Grey coupe was a fun car to drive with the 394/Hydro. Replacing it with the 455/TH400, was one of my many misakes. Norm |

Norm, was it the difference in the gearing of the transmission, or something else. I know that both engines feel very torquey, or were both of the built up and the build on the 394 was just a better one?

'64 330, being the first of the modern V8s, used the same (available everywhere) rear mount as the rest.
Very different than the '61-'64, as shown on page 16 of this Fusick Catalog, and the '35-'60 as shown on page 41 of this Fusick Catalog. Quote:
They are in the other Fusick catalog. The one that covers F85/Cutlass/442. You are probably getting senile. Or, as they said in the thirties, enjoying your second childhood. Norm

63-4 had the aluminum front cover on the engine vs. iron on the older 394s. I don't know if the engine mount arrangement was revised at the same time; it might have been a little different and the mating to the block might have changed a bit also.
