455 Dyno Charts
Does anybody know where to find any dyno charts for a 68-72 Olds 455?

Are you meaning stock engines? And dyno charts from whom?

I don't know that Oldsmobile provided dyno charts on their stock engines at any time although I wouldn't be the one to ask anyway (I know you didn't..). Joe Padavano may know that or not, he seems to have quite a bit of knowledge in that area. What would be the purpose of having this information if you could acquire it anyway?

Actually, Olds did publish dyno charts in the 60s. I have a 66-69 dealer parts book that has them, for example. I also believe they were reproduced in some of the 442 books that are available. Of course, whether you believe these charts or not is a question. For example, I've always been skeptical that with all the modifications, the W-30 motors were shown to only produce 5-10 HP more than the base 442 engines and LESS HP and torque than the Toronado engines. I don't suppose this had ANYTHING to do with the 10 lb/horsepower GM corporate mandate...

A dyno chart will only reflect the particular pull(s) made at that time, that environment, and in that state of tune. It will not necessarily show what that particular engine, or a random production version, might actually be capable of.
Its what I mean, when I say, advertised HP figures are all but useless. Norm |
