Header tube to oil filter proximity
I test fit my Thorley headers today and there is about 1/4"-3/8" gap between the header tube and the oil filter. Is this OK? It will spin on and off OK but I'm worried about heat. I was thinking I could possibly run a slightly smaller diameter filter (if an off the shelf one exists), or run a remote filter assembly. I'd prefer to keep the existing set-up. Is it OK to run as-is? Does anyone know of a slightly smaller filter I can run on the stock mounting point? What do you recommend?
Thanks. |

I've got a 68 w headers running about the same clearence. Doesnt seem to be a problem. I don,t believe you will need to downsize your filter. If you are concerned you could opt for a remote mount, but there seems to be enough air flow running the filter in the stock configuration.

Headers are fine, my last set was on a 64 Impala SS 350, but either reroute your filter, or have other considerations as believe it or not, oil filtration is of most importance. |

I would imagine that any oil filter nowadays would be a better rating than a 1968 one.

Good to know.
I think I found a set of headers for the Delta and that PF-24 oil filter is huge, a lot of a lot fatter than that PF-61 the 307 had. As long as they aren't touching I would think it would be fine. HA I had the "cap" fall off the stock manifold and shooting a flames out the hole right nect to the oil filter and the car's still fine ![]()
