heater control valve
ok so after putting my engine back together i find that my heater control valve is leaking coolant out the side of it when i put it under pressure. its leaking out the side of it on one of the moving parts on it
so i go to the auto parts store to pick one up and this is what shows up on their computer for my car for replacement part..something more like this.. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ksid=p3907.m29 however the one that is currently in the intake manifold looks like this... ![]() notable differences would be what looks like something plugged into the side of it where the one at the auto parts store didnt have that. what's the difference?can i make the one at the auto parts store work? what's the big difference in the 2?

The auto parts one looks like what you need. I'll try and take a good picture of the way it is set up on my motor.

I have also seen the kind similar to the one pictured in the link except that the lower end is threaded to fit directly into the manifold instead of having a section of heater hose on it.

Correct Oldsguy. It just threads in there, you could buy one from practically any Olds 307-455 model and use brass adapter fittings to make it work.
The easiest way to remove the old one, is to break off the big mushroom top of it, and simply put a socket and extension or box wrench on the nut. ![]()

The valve you showed in the link isn't even an Olds valve. It has hose fittings on both inlet and outlet. A correct Olds valve needs threads on one end to thread into the manifold.
The later model 307 valve will work fine, though it will not look like your original. It's a different design (mainly to lower manufacturing costs) but it is functionally interchangeable.

the one on the ebay link wasnt the exact part, like you guys said it doesnt have the threading. but anyways i did pick one up that was just like the ebay one (not like the one ON my car) and it appears to have ports where there are supposed to be and should function the same way.
no its just going to be a pain in the ass to get the old on off. i put in on when the intake manifold was still off the car because i know what a pain in the ass it is to get off. we'll see.

installed the new control valve today. i just took the old sensor off of the old one which screwed right out and transplanted it into the new one. even though it looks different, the new one ultimately functions the same way.
