That cam will work fine. If anything, you could go even a little more aggressive on the cam specs.

I agree with Joe in that cam may be a bit small when you go to the 3.42 gears. You will rev past the power band too quickly try the 214-224 cam..

what do you thinking guys..... whats bigest cam i can use in my low comp.engine, without doing any maschine job like valve spring height change.
Headers-intake-a 750cfm carb-and a free flowing exhaust are installed. |

you could probably get by with the 214-224 @.050 cam with stock springs...lift is under .500 for both valves...however using stock springs may hurt the motors ability to rev.

Yep...but while I was looking at the Lunati catalog I saw a cam that sounds even better, it is the 217-221 @ .050 and .485 lift...I like the tighter lobes for the better power band.

Hello, I think you will be happy with that cam for street use. It is always best to keep RPM's in an unmodified oil systemed 455 UNDER 5000 RPM's anyway. I have the 268H Comp cam, 0.456/0.456 lift in my 71 Delta conv, lo-com 455 and I love that cam. I shift about 4600 RPM's if I open it up. In a lo-comp 455 one is NOT really gaining much, if anything by reving it higher. This is the third engine I have had this same cam in. It was in a G-body(1978-1986) Cutlass that had at different times 4:10 & 3:73 gears and it has been in a 350 Olds also. My 71 Delta only has 2:73 gears with headers, torque tubed dual exhaust, small converter but it will move out pretty good. Comp roller tip rockers,,,,,,hmmm, watch your push-rod lengths, I run "stock" bridge-type rockers that are made by Crane, just like stock Oldsmobiles but a hair lighter and new. You can get by with new stock valve springs, you can always shim them if you need more seat pressure which I doubt you will. Most Olds guys over "kill" everything, hey it is a Convertible. My inside joke I always say to my Olds Buddies is, "Hey, we aren't building a National Record Holder here." 4800RPM's with 3:42 gears should let you go around 110 miles per hour's, probably fast enough in a 1965 Olds convertible! Stay in the "slow" lane on the Autobaun!!! Good Luck, Ken
