66 425 Question

I'm in the middle of building my '66 442 right now. I don't have a motor for it, yet, well, I did get the car for free and it's a beautiful Ca rust free body with original black and yellow plates, but anyways, my best friend in Tx came across a '66 425 Toronado motor. He tells me that it has the "common" cam bank angle. 45* instead of 39* I think he said. Can someone explain the reason why one is better than the other?

The toro engine, 425 has the modern or common cam angle. The lifter size is bigger though and the lifters for this engine are a little pricey. It would be the 39 degree and cams are more common for this engine. There are no real performance gains in either 425 in my opinion. If ya do get it be certain it has the larger lifters so you will be sure of cam angle. Also use the deeper oil pan and windage tray and crank scrapers that the toro had. This can add a few HP.
