425 olds engine code 389244D
Can anyone point me to some information I can find about the 425 engine. The code is 389244D and the year as far as I can tell should be 1966 or 1967.
Thanks for any help Mike |

Hello Mike
Check the head casting, if it's a 1965 it'd be "A", 66 a "B", 67 a "C" That would be a letter that's maybe an inch tall located next to the #1 and #8 sparkplug holes. Check the FAQ list at the home page of this site for more details. Also, if it's a Toronado the center of the intake will be sunken and the oil pan will have a provision for the front drive axle, then a little lower in the front and the lowest part of the back will have one side lower. Should have a forged steel crank, and if a 4 bbl carb a higher compression and hp output. John

That is a 66 or 67 425...problem is that motor was available in two configurations. 45 degree lifter angle or the more common 39 degree. Also two lifter Dia. The .921 is the more pricey of the two sizes. There is a " drill spot " on the raised casting on top of the timing case next to the oil filler tube. Can you post a pic of the top showing the casting number and the area next to the oil filler?
