pcv...what side of engine

This is probably a stupid question, but what side valve cover is the pcv valve in on a 400 motor? Musclecar enthusiast magazine show the details of the Olds 350 with the pcv on the drivers side, but I notice most pictures I see has the pcv on the passenger side. What is correct, and does it really matter?

Mine is on the drivers side, but it's wrong I have no idea why it is like that, but I now have to switch them. Of course I didn't notice till the alt bracket was on and now that has to come back off

yeah mine also is on the drivers side but its a 455. Even my 84 olds with 307 is on drivers, havent seen too many on passenger side. one way to always tell if you got a factory air cleaner is place it the way it would be facing if it was on the engine and where ever the breather cap tube comes from then you know its the other side from that. Thats why some on the site are trying to find me a air cleaner for a 4BBL, because other makes have the breather cap on the other side (drivers), mines on the passenger with the heat rise tube

I just looked in the assembly manual (should have done that first but they can be so hard to find anything) and it shows RH (pass side) valve cover for PCV.

I guess I need to swap my grommets!

My engine is a '70 also. Did they have the air cleaner set up a different way? That is the only reason mine won't work like that because the hose for the breather is on the driver side.

My '65 has no PVC valve. I'm in the process of
putting one in. It came with a CVS which is garbage.
The PVC will be on the drivers side

Thats right. 65s built for use in California had a PCV in the drivers side cover. They also had a top hat style oil cap.
