65 400 build ideas

Hello All

I have a nice all original 65 442 ragtop, with a cracked block, and very few usable engine parts.

I'm under the impression that I'll never be able to rebuild an engine totally stock without having a lot of parts custom made. I don't have that kind of budget.

I think I found a correct used shortblock that needs to be rebuilt.

Looking for ideas and a parts listing for a rebuild that will run on pump gas, look original from the outside, and pick up a little more power.

I plan on using the original 2 sp Jetaway trans, and the 3:23 year end. Not planning on racing, but I'm not against power.

Thanx for your ideas

Ron

What parts cannot be used? You can still get a lot of engine parts for your Oldsmobile, if you list them we may be able to help. It would sure be nice to be able to keep a 400 engine in your car. Is this what you referred to when you said you found a correct used shortblock?

I have found ebay and Craig's list to be a good sours of parts also some one here may have a block laying about. Think a 425 may fit also the 455 may require some mods to fit the tranny.
