425 Rebuild Advice

I acquired a 1967 Toronado 425 to put in the 1953 hardtop my sons and I are building. Planning to use a turbo 400 and corporate 10 bolt with 3.42 gears. Building the car for street use .The motor is stock bore and my mechanic buddy thinks a bore is not required . I would appreciate your advice about a couple of issues as follows: 1.I have the stock intake but no carb. Should I use the intake and just get a carb-if so,which one? Or should I go with a new intake and carb ? 2.Which brand /model of headers would work best -we have put a 1974 Nova(I mean Omega) subframe in the car. 3.What about the cam? My friend pulled out of the attic a new Perfect Circle cam # 229-1644 ;he "thinks"it is for a 425 but cannot remember for sure. Also,he said it looks like it may be a "race" cam .It appears the 425 has the larger lifters-does this require a special cam ? .4.Who do you recommend for the purchase of the rebuild kit (rings, bearings,etc)? 5. Any other suggestions about the rebuild ? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP !

I built my 425 using parts from mondello's in Califoria. The people there told me what to use to get the results I was looking for. I can't seem to find the web site at this moment but if you google it I'm sure it will come up. My engine is from a 65 delta 88. These things have massive torque. The best muscle car engine that never made it into a muscle car.

good questions

good questions, I have more. There were different degrees on that engine cams ect. not interchangable if you have the latter of the two you are in good shape, most of the parts will interchange with the 455, find out which motor you have for sure before proceeding. If you find out the motor for sure post it hear and i will give the best advice i can. p.s. the 425 has an over square design ie: it will make ungodlly amounts of torque and it will rev like nothing you have ever seen with the right set up.

Since this is a street car...
Q-JET-Q-JET-Q-JET. Best mileage, with power. If you wanted to go faster, 850 Holley.
You SHOULD have (which in no way guarantees it) a 39 degree block, with .921 lifters. They will be more expensive. They do not require a special cam, but you can have a faster acting cam made for the larger lifters (but why on a street car).
I have no spec's on that cam, and I was just too lazy to look them up.

Perfect Circle/Clevite #229-1644 = 244º duration, 475” lift, and 110º Lobe centers. Too much duration for most street applications.

Thanks guys for your posts. Per what I read in the "tech" materials on the site , it appears I do have the 39 degree angle engine with the .921 lifters. So, for street use, should I use the stock cam specs ? Is a significant gain realized by an aftermarket intake ? By headers ? Are these choices dependent on each other ? Sorry for the elementary questions , but I am trying to understand as much as I can . Sooooooo much to learn . Thanks , John.

The toro uses a dished intake for hood clearance issues in the Toro. If hood clearance is not an issue you may want to swap it to a lighter aluminum intake. Carb choices are many. I prefer the Holley spreadbore 650's with mech secondarys....yep just opened a can of worms with that one...Block is surely a 39 degree cam angle. Dont know what headers may fit your body and frame combo.
