'66 F-85 Deluxe wheels - opinions

I'm trying to figure out what wheels to put on my '66 F-85 4-door driver.....plans include suspension/brake upgrades, flat-black paint, & lots of driving. The current 14" drum wheels & full covers need to go.

I started out w/ a set of 14x7 bolt-on cap SSII's, then found a set of (x5) 15x7 SSIII's, and then found a set of 15x7 & 15x8 Crager S/S's in really good condition......but I really like the stock steels w/ dog dish look.

Any opinions, I'm running out garage storage space.....

Doc, I personally prefer the stock wheels for a classic, original look. But I've had a couple of different carsin years past with Cragars and have always liked them for a rod type of look. And if you upgrade the brakes and suspension, you may need to go with a larger wheel anyway.

My opinion? These cars look really classy with a set of SS1 wheels and that would be a stock option. Not hard to get either. SS11 are ok, but I think they fit the 68+ body better. If you're going for a brake upgrade, you will probably have to upgrade to 14X7 or 15X7 for the proper offset and clearance for disc brakes.

Dog dish? hmmm. maybe, but I never really cared form them. I see them mostly on muscle cars that wanna be police cars. Never really understood the appeal of dog dish. But, to each their own.

What also might look relatively classy on these cars is the simulated wire wheel covers. If it's just a driver for now, you could get the wire wheel discs from the wrecker for a song. Last time I checked locally, a set only cost around 25 bucks.

Post a pic with something on those steelies... they just don't have any appeal to them the way they sit now.

Thanks for the ideas......

I'll NEVER run wires on anything I drive. The dogs were installed a week or so ago, never got pics....I just have always liked them. I REALLY need to paint the wheels, but was in a bind time-wise when I bought the tires.

These are the 15x7 steels & will clear the disc brakes I'm looking at (11.75 rotors) swapping on.

Thanks!
D
