Stock Tranny
Generally the TH350 was used with the 6cyl and all 350cid V8’s and the TH400 was used with the 455cid V8. The transmission from the 6cyl is different than the trans used with the V8.
There are different transmission codes used with different engines and heavy-duty options.
The codes don’t really matter if you are not doing a restoration. You will need to be aware of a couple of things:
There are two different bell housings for all GM transmissions Chevy and BOPC.
There are short and long tail shaft THM400
In the late 70’s early 80’s GM built a trans type THM 375B this looks just like a 400 but is a lighter duty unit. Most of the time it was used on the 403 and big cars with the 350.
Lastly 64, 65, 66 and 67 BOPC THM400’s are Switch Pitch units and will require some additional wiring to work the switch pitch converter
