Mondello's 442 W30 Vista Going to Auction

Joe Mondello's factory built 442 W30 Vista Cruiser is going to be sold at the King auction in Atlantic City at the end of February. He has had the car since new and I'm surprised to see it for sale. The holy grail of Vista Cruisers along with the other one wherever it is. Perfect for the 442 guy or Olds collector that has everything. The only Vista that may be more desirable to have is the '69 from That 70's Show but Wilmer Valderrama (Fez) bought it for 500 bucks and is sitting on that beater.

With all due respect my friend, I'd rather have the one of one Son of a Boss Wagon built for C/D magazine in 69 with a W-30 OAI 455.

I would have never guessed, any year as long as it's '69.

I have the original factory wholesale order for that wagon and it was never ordered or built as a W-30. The Hood and mirrors were added latter in it's life or maybe at the dealer it was delivered to. It was built for Popular Hot Rodding as a PR car on 9-16-69.

Interestin

That's interesting. The article I have is from C/D Oct 1969 page 119..The Black and White [yellow now] short article title

"Son of Cousin of Boss Wagon"

"This year we ended up with a retina-detaching, gold metalflake billboard with star billing [in the form of 12-inch letters] going to C/D and credits going to Oldsmobile, 455 cu.in. and Hurst as well. The ram-air engine has been modified by Hurst [same as the 380-hp unit used in the Hurst-Olds........ '

It doesn't have a 69 H/O hood scoop nor can I make out any under bumper scoops. I see no mirrors from the pasanger side pic, But it says Car Driver in bold letters and Oldsmobile over the rear wheel well. The article says it's sporting 670X15 tires that look like on SSII wheels.

It goes on to say, "SOCOBW came equipted with air conditioning. Front suspension components include all the parts from the super heavy duty Police Interceptor package, including a rear anti-sway bar."

James i think Hairy Olds is talking about the Mondello '70 wagon, not the 69 your referring too...

I do love these wagons though!!

Thanks for the info Hairy Olds Can't argue with documentation.
Another legend bites the dust, and I was planning to go to Atlantic City right after I win the lottery. I've heard a lot of conflicting stories about that car and was always a little leary about it, what is it one of two of ??

I have to learn more about this Boss Wagon deal, sounds mucho cool.
Son of Cousin of Boss Wagon? Where are the uncle or aunt Boss Wagons?

I bought the paper work on eBay a while back and have been looking for the vin to see if they matched up and they did. I have been collecting a lot of odd Oldsmobile paperwork and other objects for a while now. Jamesbo if you could post the 69 article that would be excellent.

"Clone" implies that there was an original to copy. I think the term you're looking for is "phantom". Sort of like "one-of-none".

"One of none" sounds like a good term for the Barrett Jackson auction house to start using.. Good quote Joe

Hey, Whatever happened to the "Son of Cousin of Boss Wagon' article?
The Cousin of Boss Wagon is at C/D but I can't find anything on the '69.
