I am looking for the trunk lock hinge cover for my 75 Olds Delta 88. Any help will be appreciated.

 

Grp 12.249 p/n 9835200, emblem and escutcheon, lock cylinder, 1971-76 Delta Custom and Royale.

They were hard to find and expensive 15 years ago, and sellers are aware of them. You cannot get the flip-up lock cover separately.

Since the attaching rivets have to be drilled out anyway to replace it, what a lot of 70s Royale owners are doing is finding a lock cover for 77-84 Delta Royales. These covers use a different formula plastic that lasts longer than the original VitroLux emblems. It is a deep red background with "Royale" script incised into the plastic in gold. Script matches early 70s Royale trim bits. Handsome emblem and shows up nice against all colors, but especially white, silver or cranberry red.

The best part is unless you run up against someone knowledgeable about the cars, no one knows any different.

I have a couple Olds trunk covers that have no original boxes I want to put on eBay, and casting numbers are not part numbers.

Google searches produce absolutely nothing concrete.

 

Rumor has it , occasionaly castin #is 1or 2 off of part

Well, I've been selling obsolete GM parts for 45 years, and it's not always quite that simple.

Yes, there are indeed instances where the casting number is one or two digits off from the sales part number. Then there are cases where they are radically different.

Case in point:
1971 - 1974 Olds 98 trunk lock cover - sales part number is 9665806.
Flipper (cover) casting number is 9838020
Escutcheon (base) casting number is 9838019

GM's pattern of casting number to sales part number varied for a number of reasons. Sometimes it was simply the era of the part - earlier parts quite often did conform to the one-digit-off scenario, while later parts were subject to more complicated in-house numbering schemes employed by GM. Sometimes it was the fact that the part as supplied through the parts department was now a "kit", with attaching nuts, clips, etc, included in the package. Sometimes it was the material of the part (diecast vs plastic vs glass, etc). Sometimes it seems as if it was the body platform the part fit (A-body, B-body, etc). Sometimes it seems like the GM Division producing the part made a difference.

And, at times, it seems (to me, at least) like someone just invented a number...

@Kennybill - How about pictures? While I am in Ohio, I'm not interested in a trunk lid, but someone else might, and pictures of the condition would certainly help.

I looked at it today. Key works, cover hinge is okay but the outside isn't so good but better than nothing. Take the whole trunklid (garage art?) (:•》 where are you located ?

 

Th old man always kept his baby garaged...cover not same as 75 -88 but very nice

i have wet sanded and buffed a lens like that with good results.
