1970 442 pinchweld molding attachment
I have a 1970 442 convertible needing to have the pinchweld molding reattached. I have also heard this referred to as "belt" molding. It is the two-piece stainless steel molding that goes around the opening in the body that the top folds into.
There are 7 screws for reattaching it, all of which I have. I've seen some clips in catalogs and was wondering if I also needed them. I was not present when the trim was removed, so I can't say whether it had clips or not. Can anyone provide some clarification? Do I need both the screws and clips? Thanks for any assistance. |

I just got my 70 442 convertible back from the body shop. I believe you
need to use the clips to get the clearance necesary to tuck your boot in when the top is down. |

Do you have any idea what the clips are supposed to look like or how they go on? I've seen two different types, both supposedly for 1970.
I ordered some from Fusicks and they don't appear to fit how I'd expect. They are pretty loose in the trim and I'm not sure they would even stay in place much less provide any additional clearance for the boot. I'll see if I can't post a picture of them tonight. |

If you look in OPGI's online catalog, they look the same as mine. part # C21154.
There web site is www.OPGI.com I don't really know who the best suppliers are, but I have had very good luck with OPGI. They seem to be quite knowledgeable and helpful. I've also gotten things from BAP, and Year One, along with Fusick. No real complaints, but I personally had my best luck with OPGI. |

Thanks again. I looked up the OPGI parts and they are different than the ones Fusicks sent. I called OPGI and they said those parts were "in tooling" and wouldn't be available for months.
I guess I can pay double the OPGI cost and get them from Year One now... |

Use one or the other...most Olds's I have taken apart used the screws instead of the clips (at least as far as 70-72 cars are conserned). Have only seen the clips on a 69 Pontiac Tempest convert I pulled the moulding from. The factories didn't use both methods, on the same car, to retain the mouldings.
I would use the screws on that car. That's what it came with and the screws also alllow you room for the boot to slip under the outside edge of the moulding.
