Post '67 442 Axle search continues.....

My search for the elusive road noise led me to a bad drivers side axle on my 442. I hoping to find someone out there that has, or knows where I can get, a replacement. Here is what I know the differential in the car. It is believed to be original.

* "P" type differential (converging ribs on the case)
* 10-bolt irregular cover (notches on either side @ 9 o'clock and 3 o'clock)
* Posi (ratio ?)
* Axle length - 29 3/4" outside of the flange to the end.
* Non-C clip type

The car was purchased the first week of January, 1967. From what I understand, '67 was a transition year and it appears my car received the earlier, non c clip version.

If anyone can provide other applications that used this type of diff, it would be greatly appreciated. I have found information on this site that indicates this was used on '64-'70 F-85, Tempest/GTO and '67-'71 Firebirds.

Thanks in advance,

Matt

You do not have an original Olds rear in the car. I think you may have a Pontiac. There are web sites for rears. You may have to look around to find one. Good luck, Ken

The one to look for is a 12 bolt/12 bolt. 12 bolts on the cover and 12 bolts holding the ring gear. I think they're used in Ch*v's

Are you looking for a whole axle, or just a replacement bearing? If you're just looking for parts, here's one source:
