VIN History Recommendations

Does anyone have a recommendation on a service that will tell me vehicle history by the vin#. My situation is this. The person I purchased the 442 from does not know who the last owner was. He says he got it from a place called up4auctions out of scottsdale arizona. When I call up4auctions they say they dont have any information about that car.

Any suggestions?

Carfax.com?? I don't know if they go back that far, though...

If it's changed states this may or may not help. I have a 1970 442 that spent it's whole life in Oregon. The guy I bought it from gave me copies printed from microfilm of vehicle registration for the other two owners of the car. He told me he got them from DMV. I was able to located and talk with both of these previous owners, which was kinda cool. I don't know if all states have this ability or would be willing to provide that information. John
