Sharing our 1970 442 Vert.

Hey guys..

I figure it is time for me to finally get pics up on the forum of our 442.

The story...

The car was purchased new in 1970 by my grandpa.. my grandma picked it out. She liked the power apparently. My dad said how cool it was to be a 16 yo kid and have his parents bring this home out of the blue.

It was mainly driven by my grandma as well as my dad and his brother as teens. It never had any accidents at all.. but apparently spun out in a neighbourhood and ended up tearing up someones lawn in the middle of the night. The hubcap was retrieved in the morning.. with out having the parents find out!

It saw daily driving through the mid 80s (even winter) at which point my dad bought it. He had some cheap bodywork and paint done (Bondo etc..). It wasnt driven much after this but was starting to look poor.

In 2006 it was deceded to either sell or restore. An Ebay guy was contracted and pictures were taken of the car after it was buffed. My dad took it for a final drive on a sunny day and decided he could not sell it.

1 year and MUCH $$$$ later here is what we have. Complete resto.. nothing over looked. Mostly new metal.. rebuilt mechanicals.. engine.. and the nicest paint I have ever seen on a car. There is not a piece of this car you could not eat off of.. it is that well done.

It is amazing to drive now. It turns the head of everyone that sees it and me (19) and my brother (17) are both allowed to take it out.. with some 4bbl use.

Anyway....

Very nice car and a great story. Don't ever let this one get away no matter what. Keep it in the family. Glad you dad came to his senses.

Thankyou. Here are more pics I found...
I have a bunch of front/back shots but I dont want to show the plate. I will edit the #s out later...

I wish I had a shot of the doors pre-resto... They endured 10 years of 3 kids opening the mini van door on it and bike scratches. The lower quarter panels were basically bondo too. All panels replaced.. Florida doors.. hood.

What are the odds that we both live in London...?

The only black 442 (or any 442 for that matter) that I have seen in London was parked next to ours at the Fleetwood Country Cruise In last summer. It was also a clone... That wasn't you was it?

oldzzy.. yes that was our car for sure.

Thanks for the compliments. We could not be happier with the car and how the resto turned out. It has been running perfectly since it was finished other than a gas gauge problem. The problem we cant get rid of is where the gas gauge constantly winds down eating high octane+booster.

I do not know the exact paint code of ours but I will find out. The clearcoat looks better than the enamel respray from the 80s... to say the least!

Check the data plate on the cowl just above the master cylinder.
