You bet Dave. Your avatar was just too large (max of 140x120 pixels), and in your sig, to get the picture to display you sometimes have to put the vBB code {SIGPIC}{/SIGPIC} (replace curly braces { and } with square brackets [ and ] ) somewhere in your sig block.
