I am trying to put an aftermarket A/C in this car. I have a vintage AC system that they told me would fit. Under the dash seems like no problem but when it comes to mounting the A/C compressor I see no room for it, because the Power steering pump and alt are right in the way. Im not sure if these cars came factory with ac at all if so does anyone have any pics so i could see how the bracket system works? Any other info would be helpful Thanks.

Show us some pictures of the engine and the brackets that you have, maybe we can help that way....

Heres the rest of em. Included is the brackets they sent me to mount the compressor...Although I dont think they will be very useful.

 

I have big block olds a/c brackets but they mount right where the power steering is on yours. All I can say is check ebay and google images of your car.

 

I was going to suggest what Oldsfan just said. Most installations are with the A/C compressor high and the alternator moved down below it. You may need different brackets because those just don't look right.

 

Thanks for the responses so far, Those cars look like the ideas I was actually coming up with to mount it. Does anyone know where I could get my hands on a set of brackets for orininal AC and Alt combo? Plus Im not sure but i would guess the Water pump and Crank pulleys would be differnt also so i think i would need those as well. I can check e-bay but do you guys know of some super secret junk yard i could call?

 

You are right about the pulleys, I didn't even think about that. Wouldn't Vintage Systems have that stuff? Did they even tell you about this? Just wondering. I don't know if he would pull and deliver for you but you might try this guy. Bob Hutchison 417-876-0171. He only answers the phone in the morning, at lunch, and in the evenings. I found a yard here locally that has a 1960 with a 394 in it. It has all the ac brackets and pulleys. I would assume the motor is the same for 60 and 62 unless anyone can tell me differnt im gonna go a head and get all those parts

 

Well I wont be useing either of the compressors anyways, Ill be useing the one that came with the A/C kit so i know im going to have to modify the brackets anyways. Only thing i care about is that its going to get me 75% of the way there with lineing things up and then i can modify what else i need to to make it all fit and operate properly.

 

One last thing now that i have the brackets all figured out. Just by chance do you guys know of anywhere that sells a old style compressor that would fit in the stock brackets that runs off of R 134A? I only ask because that would make life that much easier

 

I have a complete set up with brackets that I removed from a 1964 98, I believe it will fit your 62. I will check out my 61 and see if it will just boltup.
The only real difference in the 61, 62 and 64 are the exhaust manifolds on the 64 are different than the other two. All of the heads interchange and the brackets bolt to the pass side head and the block. I will get some pics of my installation ( with generator) and some of the stuff I have. I'll try to determine if it will work for you. I will need your e mail to send the pic's.

I have the whole system if you are interested. You will also need the pass side inner fender well, it has a removable panel to service the A/C. I don't know if the 64 is the same as the 62 but I'll also check that out for you.
