Changing the filter in a TH350 and have been having a problem with a leak and I am not sure if the dipstick is reading correctly. After dropping the pan how much fluid remains in the torque converter? And what is the total capacity of a TH350 1971 cutlass. Thanks.

 

I'd say 75% of the fluid will stay in the converter. You can't really get most of the fluid out of it without drilling a hole in it and pop riveting it back shut after you drain it. If you just drop the pan, I'd guess only 4 or 5 quarts will come out. The whole system won't ever drain out all the way because there are so many little channels that fluid sits in.

 

Make sure that you put the screws back into the holes that you took them out of immediately. If you go to the store for smokes or something and come back to put the filter on later, you will be looking at all those holes, spinning the filter different ways and scratching your head.
