You only need the multiplex unit if it's a stereo radio. Stereo radios have am and fm on the dial at the same time. The non stereo radio has a dial that flips from am to fm. Adding the 8 track will not turn the radio to stereo. As far as the valance, you could just cut a piece out of yours.
