Bad habits kicked in again

It's unfortunetly not an Oldsmobile, but I simply can't help myself. I've wanted an old man cruiser land yacht project for years, and those people won't sell me their '63 ninety-eight 4 door hard top that's in beautiful condition, and now i've found a new junker.

it's a 1961 Cadillac 4 door hard top 6 window.

It's definitely a project...the dash looks good, the carpet's don't look too awful bad, but all the interior fabric and seats need replaced. It doesn't run, but could be made to run, last ran 4 years ago but spent 3 years garaged. One side window is knocked out, another has a crack. very minor rust patches, a couple minor dings.

*Edit* Forgot to mention, it has a 390 V8, I believe that's the correct ci.

Price: $650.00 + 100 mile drive to pick it up with a trailer and haul it back.

Thoughts?

yeah, the guy who has it and I both agreed the interior color needs changed. he's an upholsterer, so he was gonna do the work, but he's moving soon and doesn't want to drag the car with him.

Nah. Leave it pink, it's what makes a car like that. Early 60s GM cars were outrageous to start with, and they look their best in outrageous color and trim. They look kinda dull and cheap in subdued colors. You don't want yer Caddy to look like a low-line Chevrolet, now do you?

Looks like it's a deVille short deck sedan that started life either white or Persian Sand before somebody got loose with what looks like 1966 Ford Emberglo. Check the body plate- 6399 is a deVille short deck car. deVille 6-window is 6329 and Series 62 6-window is 6229.

For roughly $750 you didn't get hurt anyway. You can part it out and get your money back and then some.

There'll be a body data plate underhood, probably on the firewall or maybe on the ledge at the back edge of the hood. It'll say something like "This car finished in Magic Mirror acrylic lacquer" and you should see letter/number codes stamped into it. 61-6399 would indicate the body style. Also PNT, TR and TIME codes stamped in it, plus some ACC codes.

The '61 and '62 deVilles have always been my favorites. I'd love to get my hands on a nice Coupe!

Olds64 owns a '64 98 six window hardtop. Those are sweet body styles.
