Well Hello !!
It's been a few days now.
Good news ... The car gets more drivable every time I take it out
It will now cruise at 60 - 70 no problem. hesitates a bit still when the trottle is fully open.
I don't know if the carb was all gummed up ? are there 2 float chambers ? maybe when I open up the second pair of barrels it was sucking in muck ?
Maybe the REDEX petrol treatment I have been adding IS actually cleaning the fuel system.
Anyhow, it seems to be curing itself.
I have bought a carb rebuild kit anyway and plan to fit this next week. I have also ordered a new fuel pump from the states.
And to top it off - it now has a 12 month MOT !!! (Ministry of Transport safty insepction). Passed 1st time.
