I just purchased a left-side 1965 -1970 Starfire Dual Exhaust Manifold from Thornton.

I spoke with Troy Thornton yesterday and thanked him for making these reproductions.

I'm considering installing 1967 Toronado Exhaust Tips on my 67 - 88 Custom Holiday Coupe.

My question to you is... What size are these tips from Fusick? I'm planning on using 2 1/2 inch pipe.

Also... x-pipe or no x-pipe? I'm thinking no x-pipe.

Something to consider is that the Toronado extensions are designed to fit OVER the tailpipes and not weld or attach to them. The extensions attach to the hanger, then there's a set screw that attaches the inner tailpipe to the outer extension. I'm not sure if Fusick's reproductions have the hole for the setscrew; been a while since I looked at one.

Your muffler guy probably has some nice chrome or stainless tips that can duplicate the Toro tips' appearance and weld onto your tailpipes.

But I gotta say that big duals on a big car look the most menacing when they turn down in factory location and are just barely visible under the bumper. Has an "I mean business" look.

X-pipe is your call. They do improve exhaust scavenging some.

Agree, Guess we are showing our age here.

 

I was just looking at your post and thought you might like to see these exhaust tips. These are stainless Meggs rolled in at the edges and are a wider oval. The 1969 Toro these are on had it's bumper modified into dual cutouts to fit the tips exactly. They have a very custom look, but also look like they belong on the car. The oval openings of the tips are about 4" across and the pipe is 2-1/2".

If I remember correctly the Toronado exhaust fits in a channel between the frame and floor panels. X pipe would be tough to do. I know the transverse muffler is a pseudo x pipe but a poor substitute

 

It's not going on a Toronado. It's going on a 67 Delta Custom which has the head pipes running parallel to the driveshaft.
