My 69 came home last Monday. She is beautiful. You can see I already posted a couple of general mechanical questions as I try to get back up to speed on old car maintenance and upkeep. I am sure there will be plenty more as I get more miles under my belt. It has been a long time since I have had an old car to drive and enjoy. Not too many miles yet--we've had mostly rain since I got her back. The first few miles driven (all in the city) have been kind of scary as I get used to older vehicle driving dynamics (on bias ply tires) on crappy city streets, but I love it. The sights, the sounds, the smells--just can't beat it in my book.

Your car looks pretty awsome...and clean, just like it came out of a body shop!!! Where was it that it came home to be away from that we have to enquire about??? and how far away was it and was it an arduous trip?? This is getting very interesting

Congrats, Eric. This is an epic time for you, as with anyone who has finished such a project. Congrats just doesn't say enough for such an accomplishment.
And yes, there is nothing like getting behind the wheel of one fine machines. Like you say, it is different. Sure, quite honestly it isn't that they are ultimate in automotive engineering. But what they are is virtually beyond description. A time machine that is sensational!!

She looks like Cameo white, too, like mine... Was that color name used in 69?
Is this an original car or restored? Looks very sweet! Mucho congrats!!

 

I love the 69 H/O's. Not as much as 70 W-30's though. Very Nice car.

Thanks for the compliments on the car. I wish I could say I deserved them all, but I don't.
She is fresh from her frame off restoration, but I didn't personally do any of the work except source parts. I generally work 60+ hour weeks and would never have made any progress if I was left to do it on my own. Troy Thornton and his crew did all the work. And they did great work. She is beautiful (and yes Cameo White was the color code in 69). In the restoration we preserved as much of the originality as possible--it helped that it was a pretty solid car that had seen limited miles for the last 20 years or so. I still have a couple of chalk marks to duplicate under the hood, but mostly I want to enjoy having her, since I have wanted a 69 H/O for 25+ years.
I will be working on a suitable license plate in the near future, but Illinois doesn't allow lots of combinations that would be cool. I'll just have to be a little more creative with it.
And if anyone knows of good cruise nights in the Chicago area, let me know. Once I get a little more comfortable behind the wheel, I'll be ready to go.

That is one of my favorite musclecars. Passed up buying one in '91 for about 17k if I remember right. That thing is beautiful.

She does not have AC. She does have the optional 3.91 rear, deluxe seat belts and an AM/FM radio. Power steering and brakes.

If I get another sunny day at home, I'll get some pics of the engine and interior.

 

What a beautiful car! From here it looks like they did a great job on her! That is my all-time favorite Olds and have wanted one as long as I can remember! Mind if I live vicariously through you for a little while?!

Thanks for all the kind words. I'm hoping for at least one more warm/dry driving spell before winter. Don't want to take her out on "bad" days and make her less beautiful.

4-ever-olds, I wanted a 69 H/O for 20+ years before I bought one. I'd buy another if I had: 1) space for it, and 2) money to do it.

 

One of my pipe dreams is to have consecutive numbers cars. Now that would be cool. H/O 123 and 124

 

I find that there are 2 Thornton restoration places in PA. Which one did yours? Do u have their website??

I had Troy Thornton do the work on my car. His father (Richard, I think) is just down the road.

Try tntmusclecars.com. Troy is the guy who makes the steel bodies OAI fiberglass hoods as well.

Snowdog, I wasn't at the orphan show last weekend. I had a family event to attend. I may be out tomorrow if it is sunny and not too wet outside the garage.

That was Paul Panczuk's car out of Indiana, he ran that at the Pure Stock drags in Michicagn a few weeks ago. I was at the Orphan Show but I brought my 1967 Toronado.
