45 vs. 39 cam bank angle question (oh boy)

Most of you old time olds guys are sick of this stuff. I have found all sorts of info on how to figure what you've got. Great ! We dont need to re do that subject.

question #1) which is best to have for ease of getting parts ?

question #2) Can you find parts for both ? Limited ?

question #3) If you had the hard to find parts one, would you build it ?

opinions wanted - facts needed

39 deg is much more common (all 68-90 motors)

Yes

question #3) If you had the hard to find parts one, would you build it ?
Already have.

By the way, you do realize there's a per-question charge, right?

I just did a 66 with the 45 bank angle. The only thing that had a limited selection were the camshafts. Most of the cams I found were for the 39 or they had no idea if it was for the 39 or the 45. After speaking with a couple different people, I decided to go ahead and order one through mondello. I'm told it's an engle part, but it came in a blank white box. They were the only ones that seemed to be familiar with the difference. With the knowledge compiled on this forum, you should be able to find any and everything you need.... As long as it's not a rear bumper for a 66 88.

Every part I have had trouble finding has entailed just a little more reseach for availability. Even the .921 lifters if you have them --just a wee bit more pricey but negligible on an overall build cost.

I know this is an older thread, but for anyone who finds it, Comp Cams also has the 45 degree cams. I should have saved or bookmarked the online catolog I seen them in, but it specifically listed 45 degree Olds 425 camshafts. So Comp Cams is also aware and I have also been told, they have the blanks too and will custom grind any 45 degree cam you want to your specs, so if you see a 39 degree cam spec that you like, contact Comp Cams and tell them to grind it to match the 39 degree cam youi like.

If they have it, you are definitely going on my Christmas list. They aren't too far from me either.

well, I called him, he said that was a really old part number but he would check and see if they had it. He also said he would call me back to let me know, which hasn't happened yet.
