215/75/15 on 72 Cutlass?

I have just finished painting a set of SSIII color key Olds wheels for my 72 Cutlass convertible. I have researched the various tire sizes here and it seems there is a lot of room in the Cutlass wheel wells for many different tire sizes. I woulds like to fit a set of 215/75/15 tires that are about 28 inches tall. The SSIII's have a backset of approx 3.5" on these 15" x 7" wheels. Will this tire size rub the wheel lips? Right now I have 14" chrome SSIII"s that just look too small for the car.

You should be fine. I 225/70/15 on the front a '72 with stock springs and shocks. You didn't mention if your suspension has been altered; if not lowered your choice should be a good one.

I agree that they should fit fine. I currently have 245-60-15s on the front of mine with no issues.

Thank you gentleman. It is always best to check with you folks who have already changed to 15" wheels and tires.

I forgot to mention that back in the late 70s/early 80s my 70 Supreme had 225-70-15s on a set of factory '77 Monte Carlo wheels with no issues.

Going for the 4x4 look?

Those tires are quite tall. I've run 255/60-15s all around on a 69 H/O with no real problems, but even those are about a half in smaller in diameter (and almost two inches wider). Personally I'd go with something like a 235/60-15.
