Max tire width for stock '68 442

Can anyone confirm what the max tire/wheel combo is for the subject car. I want to run 15x8's in the rear and 15x7s in the front unless it's cool to run the 15x8s in the from. Tires will be probably 60/235s in the rear and 215s or 225s in the front. Any help from people that know from experience is greatly appreciated

I did the 14" to 15" upgrade 2.5 years ago. Here are shots of P235/60R15s (98S RWL), and P255/60R15s (102S RWL). I believe max width for a 15" wheel is 8". I think both of these are 8"
But that 8" max depends on the tire and rim type and the installer. Check these specs: Scroll all the way down to the specs. It gives you all the info.

I have Wheel Vintiques on my 68 CS. They are Olds SS1 reproduction wheels, 15X10 with 5 inch back spacing. Tires are BFG Radial TA's 295/50 R15. Nice and fat but maintains 26.6 inch height.

They look and drive great. 15X8 and 235/60 R15 in the front.

These wheels look like the original Olds SS1's. You have to look closely to determine that they are not the original 14 inch. Your original center caps will fit.

I have no issues with rubbing unless I have 2 back seat passengers and only during a dip or corner.

Open the album on my user account for pictures.

Read through here, with the right backspacing you can run all the way to a 295-R50-15 in the rear.

With the right back apcing you can put a very big tire out back, like others have said, a 285/50.
JMO but a 235/60-15 is a very small tire for these cars in the back, A 255/60 on a 15x8 is no problem.

I'm running 15x7 with 235/60s in the front & 15x8 with 275/60s in back. The fronts rub the sway bar a little but I'm using a 1 1/4" sway bar. Lots of room out back!

Max Tire Size

If you are not looking at keeping the stock look, a 15"X10" with 5.5" backspace and a 295/55/15 fits perfect.
