Wheel and Tire Clearance

Hello everyone,

Once again, I have a quick tire fitment question that I hope the experienced can answer for me. I have a 1971 Cutlass Supreme convertible that I would like to install some different wider tires on the back for much better traction. The wheels that I have are the old vintage American Racing 200S Daisy wheels that measure 15" X 8.5" with a backspacing of 3-3/4". My question is, can I run the Mickey Thompson 3753R Drag Radial tires that are 275/50R15. These tires have a section width of 11.3" and tread width 10.5" and the overall diameter is 26.1". I am worried that the tires might rub on the inside of the rear fender lip. I would like to buy a pair of these for the rear since they are on sale right now and I also need the better traction that the drag radials can offer.

Let me know what you folks think. Will they clear with this backspacing?

Fit

In my opinion that should fit just fine.

Hopeful fit

Thanks. I have been thinking that it should fit as well. However I am currently running the BF Goodrich 245/60R14 tires on the same American Racing 200S wheel that is 14" X 8" that I believe is 3-3/8" or 3-1/2" backspacing. These tires are section width 9.8", tread width 8.1" and diameter 25.6" when mounted on a 7" wheel (Mine are 8"). The clearance looks to be pretty close on the fender side. Maybe about 1/2" or a little more. I am just curious if anyone has experience with these wheels , sizes and backspacing.

Thanks again.

More back space

More BS on your wheels will be useful.

Consider a 255 60 15 drag radial if you are worried about clearance.

If he had a 10" wide wheel I might be concerned with that backspacing, but with an 8.5" wheel he will be just fine.

Thanks Randy. Everyone seems to agree with you. I am actually glad to hear it, since the tires that I would like to buy from Jegs are on sale for 169.99 each, with free shipping. This price is down from 209.99 each since the tires are now discontinued. As I mentioned above, the tire is the Mickey Thompson 3753R Drag Radial 275/50R15. A very good deal indeed, as long as they fit.

Any other opinions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
