Will 10" wide rims fit on the back of a 1970 Cutlass S?
Obviously back spacing has to be right. They were on a 79 Firebird. I can get them cheap so I may. I would put 275/60R15 or 295/50R15 tires on them.

Just looked on BFG's site they say 9.5" maximum for the 275/60R15. I have gone with narrower rims with wider tires than the recommended width but not the other way around.

You need a 5.5" backspace on the rims.
Seems like 9.5" as a max width for a 275 is a little conservative, but I play it safe with that kind of stuff. On my car with 10" rims and 285 tires the tires occasionally rub the Pypes 2.5" tailpipes. Brian Trick has gotten 305's to fit without much problem, so just depends on what you have and what you want to do.

Well I guess it depends upon if you are looking for something that will "fit" or something that meets the modern day tire manufacturer's recommendations. My brother-in-law had 10" wide wheels on his 68 GTO and at one point had tires that were a bit narrow for the wheel width, but they worked and nothing terrible happened for the many years he ran them. G60s I think, no idea how many inches wide the tread actually was, but they were noticeably narrower than the wheels as the sidewalls bowed outwards to the wheel outer edge. He later put M50s and they looked like a much better fit.
Also note that the Chevy 454SS trucks came from the factory with 275-60-15s on 7" wide wheels, and you don't see any tire manufacturers recommending that width tire on that wheel size, but apparently it worked without any issues.

Thanks, not planning on any amount of highway driving with them. I am kind of just planning on using the tires I have for now, then either 275/60R15 or 295/50R15 for next year. Have so many 14" tires around for the front but only these two 15" tires. I figure with the section width being over 10", I should be good.

What size tires did you decide on? Many years ago I had the SSII centers welded into a set of 15X10 hoops with zero offset. The 295/60/15's looked really nice on my 1971 Cutlass Supreme. But in a hard corner or more noticeable in town driving from a street into a parking lot where the sidewalk is ramped, the inside of the tire would rub the inside of the wheel well. Eventually I wore those tires out and replaced them with 275/60/15 and didn't notice them rubbing.
