What retired people do on a sunny Friday afternoon

They wash and wax their old car, and then they take photos of it.

Then that same retired person realizes that he could just back his other old car out of the garage, and get photos of the two side-by-side. So he does that next.

Finally, having used up all his film, the retired person puts both cars back in the garage, calls it a productive day, and goes in the house for a cold beer.

By the way, I just noticed that the title of this forum is "Vista Cruiser and Wagons." Isn't the Vista Cruiser also a wagon? Why isn't the title of the forum "Vista Cruiser and Other Wagons." Or simply "Station Wagons."

Thanks, but.... EEEK!

Look again. That's not a Vista Cruiser, it's a Custom Cruiser! No roof glass here.

Thanks. My wife has made that exact statement. The cars are done (although there's always something that could be done to both). I need another project. But then I'd have to sell one of these, and I can't bring myself to do that yet. For one thing, my daughter is getting married next May, and she has plans to be driven around in the convertible on wedding day. Gotta keep it at least that long!

Those big wagons are not quite as sought after by most people but I would love to have a '71-'73 Custom Cruiser before I'm done. Both of your cars look super nice!!

Extremely true, which translates into there being no wagon-specific parts available for these cars. Anything from the rear doors forward, and we're in the same boat as the full-size sedan/coupe/convertible guys. Difficult as far as body/trim parts, but not hopeless. But from the rear doors back, we don't even HAVE a boat!

Wow, 28 sheets must have weighed half a ton! Did the rear of the car sag at all, or did you have air shocks?

I love the pictures! Beautiful cars. I bet it took some time to wash and wax those beauties. Looks like a lot of work to me. LOL

Great looking neighborhood. Ah...Beautiful New Mexico.

It sure is. Here's another photo of the convertible I took last February. You can see a bit of the scenery in the distance. By the way, note what I said. These photos were taken last February. As in wintertime. With the top down. It was the 24th, to be exact. Temperature about 70 and mostly sunny.

You know how people with classic convertibles sometimes talk about how they "put the top down in May and put it up in October"? I do that sort of thing, too, but the schedule is different. I put mine down on February 1st and put it up on January 31. Yes, that's right, I have the top up for one overnight each year, just to make sure it's there!

Not dumb at all, and, nope! The lawn mower keeps getting damaged by the stones!

Grass is not the normal landscaping. Some people have it, but usually just a small section of their front and/or back yards, often so their kids will have a place to play, have a swingset, that sort of thing. While we've had somewhat of a wetter than normal summer (the normal "monsoon" season is July and August, and we did have the aftereffects a couple of weeks ago of that hurricane which came up from Baja California and dumped quite a bit of rain over Arizona and New Mexico for several days), which has made everything turn green around here, the normal operating procedure for those with any grass is to water it constantly.

Nice! Two beautiful cars, no grass, and no snow. Again, I ask myself. Why in the world do I live in Ohio?

That's exactly where I moved FROM myself, two years ago. Lived in the state for 29 years.

It's a fine state. Have no complaints. But I had the opportunity here to pick up part-time work in the same field I was in before retirement, so I can stay active while still enjoying lots of free time, plus the warm weather, nice town (with a significantly lower cost of living in some respects--property taxes and utilities, which pleasantly surprised us), nearer to family, and here we are!

My wagon has air shocks, too. They're factory originals, and they don't work. I thought it was just a leaky air hose, so I replaced the hoses and tried pumping them up. No luck. Sound of air leaking from about five places. So I just left them. They still work OK as plain old shock absorbers. Car rides level and smooth, and I never load it much nor tow a trailer or anything, so I've no need for air shocks. So I've not done anything with them. Perhaps one day I'll have new shocks put on. But that's a back-burner item for now.

That is an awesome look on the driveway, I hope I get that too when I'm retired in 30-40 years depending on our crappy government...
