Custom Cruiser w/o A/C?

Has anyone ever seen a CC w/o A/C? I'd be interested in that setup!

*1980 - 1990 CC's

I'm not sure of the point of that, but I can tell you that mine's been completely empty for God knows how long and therefore doesn't A/C anymore.

So I decided to eliminate the A/C pump's "drag" on the engine (and its annoying sound) by cutting the belt, only to find that the belt HAD to be there to keep the proper tension on the other two belts.

[Plus my research shows that A/C was standard issue on Custom Cruisers, but I/it could be wrong.]

Looks like you're stuck with the A/C engine equipment and the "A/C" detents on your interior HVAC control slider...

auto_editor,

I pulled the entire HVAC off the firewall for clearance (numerous reasons). If there was a normal heat option, I'd like to install it just for the vent fan inside the car. It's not all that important to me but if the standard heat was available, I'd like it.

Doesn't sound like it exists so I will either do nothing or jury rig something for a inside fan.

Thanks,
Mike

The CSMs for those years show heat-only configurations for the G-body cars but not the B-body cars, so I suspect not. Note that the 77-90 B-body cars and the 78-88 A/G-body cars share a lot of parts and designs, but I don't think the HVAC box is one of those.

Circa sometime back in 1984-1985 ...

I could have sworn I saw a 1980 D88 sedan for sale that had no A/C.

I remember the car was sitting on an Olds dealer's lot.

V6 - lt blue & dk blue with the standard dish hubcaps.

Now I need to go whip out my 1980 CSM ...

The 1980 CSM does indeed have a separate section titled "88-98 Heater".

This is in addition to the section "88-98 Air Conditioning".

You should come up to Canada and look around. Back in those days a LOT of big cars only had heaters instead of AC.

I bought a Buick LeSabre Custom 2-dr. new in 1980 with the V6, 3-sp auto and no A/C. I doubt Olds offerings were much different.

I've actually seen more 77-79 non-A/C cars since then ...

Than I have 1980+.

I think that blue 80' was the only 80+ I ever saw

My car ( I've had it a year.) Came w/ no A.C. , but talked to a guy who knows his stuff related to A.C. ....showed me where in the engine, come spring, I can connect the KIT , needed to hook it all up. Looks super easy and I plan to have him at hand...when I do it. Would be nice. Sweated my ars off all this past summer !!!

I saw a Blue 1984-ish Delta 88 with 307 and No A/C in a self-serve yard last year. Needless to say, I was VERY surprised to find a non-A/C car here!
The car was bare-bones. No power options I could see. The air pump sat where the A/C compressor normally goes. It could have been a Northern AZ car. Tiny fan, tiny radiator, and an oversized heater. I didn't need them, but I grabbed all the accessory brackets off of it. I still have them. You know how it goes...you never know who might need them...

Like Allan said, you should look at Canadian cars for non A/C. There were quite a few differences between US and Canadian cars in the early 80's.

My '83 Delta 88 Royale came from the factory without A/C. When I take it to shows in the US, often there are people surprised to see it did not come with A/C.

I actually had one person tell me they did not know a Delta 88 Royale (not even a base Delta 88) could be ordered with so few options as mine. It has no A/C, pl, pw, and has only an AM radio with 2 dash speakers, driver's side mirror only. The options it did have are the 307/200-4R and two-tone blue paint. I have GM Canada documentation that shows the original options.
