1965 Olds Vista Cruiser L74 - New Arrival from Arizona

My new 1965 Olds Vista Cruiser 6 passenger arrived from Arizona a few weeks ago. Its a California built factory L74 Cutlass V8 315 hp car with factory A/C and California emissions. A fellow forum member (Warhead) found the link on CraigsList and responded to my wanted ad. After 6 weeks, the seller finally got his act together and I had the car shipped back to Connecticut. The car was owned by a 99 year old lady who is the second owner, she purchased it from a 85 year old man 20 years ago who ordered it new, I bought it from her 70 year old son.
Car was repainted years ago over the factory paint and rust/dent free body. Interior is worn, but complete and will be redone this winter. Its a 6 passenger Vista, the rarer of the two models (6 and 9 passenger). It has front and rear deluxe seat belts, power rear window, power windows, tinted glass, dash clock, courtesy and glove box lights, AM radio, locking rear compartment carpeted cargo area and 1/3 - 2/3 split rear seat.
The engine is the L74 optional Cutlass 315 HP V8 engine with factory 4 barrel equipped with factory air conditioning and 4 core radiator. Since it was built in California, it also has California emissions.
Car is extremely clean and the frame still has black paint on it in areas. No undercoating and no rust anywhere ever, not even much for desert surface rust.
Once I got it home, I cleaned the car good and added the Cragars from my 64 442 and have driven it around a bit, but not too far as it hasn't been driven in a few years and needs to be gone through.

Here's some pics for your viewing enjoyment!

That is a nice find. A real sweetheart. It looks like it also has the third row seat option as well

Great find - I've a friend looking for the same thing!
I had a '65 chevelle 2-dr wagon back in the '80's - had a lot of fun with it!!
One of the 1st things I did was have an upolstry [sp?] shop make-up a 2-piece, full length pad, 2" thick, to cover the rear - rear-seat up or down.
My German Shepard, [and some women] really appreciated it!

Just stumbled onto this thread, I had forgotten all about this!

This is why I love old cars, good to see someone who cares about these things get ahold of a good one.
WTG Rob!

BTW, I have a spare 65 hubcap if you want it.

Jim

Just curious what the California emissions were on a 65 Freemont built car?

A PCV valve.

In 1965 there were no separate Calif emissions requirements. A.I.R. didn't appear until the 1966 model year. Note that a pre-1970 car registered in CA (no matter where it was originally sold) had to have a retrofit NOx device. This was the only time in history that retrofitted emissions equipment was ever required by law. The NOx device simply disabled vacuum advance - the same as the 1970-72 Transmission Controlled Spark system. Obviously if it's still in place, it can be easily removed.
