48 Olds fuel tank door question
I have a 1948 Oldsmobile 78 Club Sedan and I'm looking for a bit of information about the fuel tank door. I have the door with the hinge but I'm missing the spring or latch that holds the door open and shut. If anyone has a similar model could you post a picture of the open door so I can see what parts I should be looking for. Any help with this will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Paul

Those are just what I needed, thanks a bunch. I can start looking through some boxes of loose parts and see if I can come up with some springs. Thanks again, Paul

Go to the 46-48 Oldsmobile thread under Vintage Olds forum and look at post #480. Jay at USA Parts Supply can order them. That is where I got mine. I think he ordered three sets from his source about a year ago and may still have a set available. The springs are a set and each is different.

ps. future posts on your 48 78 Club Sedan might get faster/more response on the 46-48 thread which is where most of us fat-fender Olds people hang out here on CO

Thanks for the information. I sent USA Parts Supply an email to see if they have or can get me a set of springs. I'll take your advice and post here in the future. Thanks!

Pushy, no, never entered my mind. Helpful and informative, yes. I just hope I don't offend anyone for not returning my 48 to original. It's more like a low riding hot rod.

I don't know what the split is here on 46-48 Olds cars stock vs. modified. Just guessing that the majority of the 46-48 on this thread are modified cars with newer 350 or 455 Olds engines and in a few cases Chevy engines. I'd also guess most have modified suspension and steering.
However, All are welcome: survivors, faithfully restored and hot rods from mild to wild. I think those who might be offended at modifications to our fat fender Oldsmobiles are likely on different forums even though they would be more than welcome here. My observation is we're a pretty open minded and accommodating group.
