56 olds motor serial number question
I just bought a 1956 88 with a 324, I bought a "shop manual" but it is for cars built in the U.S., this car from the id plates on both sides say it was built by GM Canada. I am wondering if the Canadians have different places for the serial number of the motor than the U.S. and if so where does one find them. Thanks for any help.......

I can't help you on the Canadian or US difference but I don't believe they manufactured their own engines but only assembled the cars there ,I could be wrong on this though.
What are your concerns on your engine? there are ways to tell if it is a 54, 55 or 56 with out seeing the numbers if that is what you are looking for...Tedd

Tedd, thanks for you post. I did assume that the cars were just assembled in Canada. More to my question, if you or others can help with my research. The Canadian plate has a engine serial number, it does not match the numbers on U.S. motors, but I did find the numbers(on the motor) match the U.S. numbers stamped on the block. I maybe thought that the Canadians took the U.S. motors and somewhere else put a serial number on the block somewhere else, as if a VIN#, to just like vin#'s do to prove ownership......just a thought....hope someone can help....thanks again Tedd
